A new Coleco system?

Wait. Is this April 1st? Did we hit some kind of bubble in the timestream that sent us back to the 1980’s?

Coleco announced a new gaming system today that will play retro compilations of games, as well as “new 8, 16 and 32 bit games”, the Coleco Chameleon. (You don’t know how hard it is for me to not break out to a Culture Club reference right now).

Coleco comes and goes, it comes and goes... (sorry. I really tried. Really!)

This will be the first gaming system since the Nintendo 64 to go with a cartridge based system. No titles or cost has been announced, but apparently Coleco will be showing it off at the New York Toy Fair in February.

I’m not expecting much from this system (the original creators asked for $2,000,000 on indiegogo, but cancelled after only raising $80,000), but depending on how it works, could be a novelty system (and probably a hardware platform targeted by emulation makers?)
